The history and legacy of jQuery LogRocket Blog
To get started, first download a copy of jQuery and include it in your document. There are two versions of jQuery available for downloading — compressed and http://progbook.ru/c/page/6/ uncompressed. The click event is only bound to elements currently in the DOM at the time of binding, so any elements added afterwards will not be bound.

Using jQuery UI forum. We also have weekly meetings every Wednesday at noon ET in #jquery-meeting on IRC. All of our sites are on GitHub, with the
repositories named after the respective domain. For example, the repository for
this site is jquery/jqueryui.com. The above example uses the .then() and .catch() methods to register callbacks that run when the response has completed. These promise callbacks must be used due to the asynchronous nature of Ajax requests.

- The aim here is to provide you with a toolkit for writing competent CSS and help you understand all the essential theory, before moving on to more specific disciplines like text styling and CSS layout.
- Now it’s time to look at how to place your boxes in the right place in relation to the viewport, and one another.
- In particular, it provided powerful methods for selecting elements.
- For example, the repository for
this site is jquery/jqueryui.com. - Extensions written for these browsers will in most cases run in Firefox or Microsoft Edge with just a few changes.
JQuery is an open-source JavaScript library that simplifies the interactions between an HTML/CSS document, or more precisely the Document Object Model (DOM), and JavaScript. Elaborating the terms, it simplifies HTML document traversing and manipulation, browser event handling, DOM animations, Ajax interactions, and cross-browser JavaScript development. JQuery, at its core, is a Document Object Model (DOM) manipulation library. The DOM is a tree-structure representation of all the elements of a Web page.
Selecting by attribute value
Certain jQuery object methods retrieve specific values (instead of modifying state). An example of this is the val() method, which returns the current value of a text input element. In these cases, a statement such as $(‘#user-email’).val() cannot be used for chaining as the return value does not reference a jQuery object. These are utility functions and do not directly act upon a jQuery object. They are accessed as static methods on the jQuery or $ identifier.

Install jQuery
It makes
things like HTML document traversal and manipulation, event handling,
animation, and Ajax much simpler with an easy-to-use API that works across
a multitude of browsers. With a combination of versatility and
extensibility, jQuery has changed the way that millions of people write
JavaScript. In JavaScript, most things are objects, from core JavaScript features like strings and arrays to the browser APIs built on top of JavaScript. You can even create your own objects to encapsulate related functions and variables into efficient packages.
In the same way that we might break a codebase down into multiple self-contained functions and classes, breaking a UI down into reusable components makes it easier to build and maintain a complex website. You’ve seen this stuff already in the course, but only in passing — here we’ll discuss it all explicitly. This module carries on where CSS first steps left off — now you’ve gained familiarity with the language and its syntax, and got some basic experience with using it, it’s time to dive a bit deeper. This module looks at the cascade and inheritance, all the selector types we have available, units, sizing, styling backgrounds and borders, debugging, and lots more. Getting started with the Web is a concise series introducing you to the practicalities of web development. You’ll set up the tools you need to construct a simple webpage and publish your own simple code.
